Farm worker in court for murdering wife.

The story of Danai Nyikadzino is quite sad and leaves one wondering about the state of affairs in some marriages, especially those of young people. She was brutally killed by her husband, whom she had been with for barely two months on allegations of infidelity. The husband had not even paid any dowry for her but jealousy and rage diminished his reasoning and he eventually killed her.

Nobert Wine said that he had allegedly caught his wife with a boyfriend, having sexual intercourse in the bush at Kialama farm in Karoi. The said boyfriend was however said to be in Marondera at the material time thereby leaving his story somehow shaky.

He had proceeded to assault his young wife, who had eloped to him when she was only doing form 1. The young girl was brutally kicked all over the body, hit with clenched fists and eventually struck with a large rock above her left eye leading to her death.

Nobert had tried to conceal the event by advising other farm workers that his wife had been involved in a hit and run accident. It later in emerged that he had in fact assaulted her. After ferrying her to hospital, it was ascertained that she was already dead upon arrival. Judge Tsanga reserved judgement in the matter.

It is disturbing to note that cases of domestic violence leading to death are rising at an alarming rate. In his defence, Wine had indicated that he was reprimanding his wife, something that he grew up witnessing from his parents. The nature of the assault that he had perpetrated on his wife was however uncalled for and excessive.
