1. Relying on a man to take care of things.

Even educated,independent and successful women are suprisingly attached to the myth that it is men who are supposed to take care of things financially. Moreso the biblical ladies who allege that the Bible says a man must work hard and fend for his family. As a result, husbands are often tasked with making the ultimate financial decisions in the house. However life is unpredictable, things like divorce,death and retrenchment are realities that women ought to foresee and prepare for.

2. Not having your own bank account.

A joint account is good for everyday spending but as a woman you must have your own bank account.

3. Underestimating the financial implications of motherhood.

Having a baby greatly impacts on a woman’s earning ability, her career choice and dependence on her husband. Make sure you discuss the implications with your husband before you have a baby.

Some women were brought up to believe that the subject of money is taboo and cannot be raised. Talk to your husband about finances, your financial insecurities and ways to preapre for the future ahead.
