Kidzcan Zimbabwe in conjunction with Husqvarna will this coming Saturday host a mud run in support of young kids suffering from cancer. The event is expected to attract thousands of fun loving Zimbabweans who will be expected to get “muddy for cancer’ in order to improve the lives of those young lives affected by the disease. Local former rugby player Tendai “Beast” Mtawarira is expected to be the guest of honour.

This will be the 8th edition of the mud run and will be held at the Jam tree in Harare on January 11. The mud run consists of thousands of teenagers and their parents who enjoy full fun in the swamp terrain, undulating hills, and magnificent wooded areas hence making it the muddiest ever event in the country. People will aslo have the opportunity to run on muddy tracks, water slides. Entertainment and jumping castles for the kids will also be available. The event is meant to raise funds for Kidzcan Zimbabwe and at the same time raise awareness of the issues and struggles associated with cancer and solutions that can be given to those in need.

Kidzcan Zimbabwe executive director Daniel McKenzie said money realised from the event this year will go towards procuring drugs from India as they can no longer afford the prices being charged locally. He also highlighted that in spite of the doctor’s strike, they have managed to ensure that children are supported with medication. He also said they want to increase awareness in the country about childhood cancer because if detected early children with cancer can be treated and survive. Revellers are expected to have even more fun this year as they encounter personally Tendai Mtawarira who was instrumental in the victory of the Springboks at the rugby world cup last year.
