Weather alert: Heavy rains, thunderstorms expected this week.

The Meteorological services department MSD has issued a statement that rainfall can be expected in most parts of the country starting this Friday up until next week. The dry spell had caused panick among farmers who had lost all hope of a bountiful harvest. Temperatures have been soaring as high as 39 degrees in some areas. Animals have been affected by the shortages of rains with wild animals succumbing to the drought in some parks.

The elephant population was significantly reduced owing to the dry spell. Domestic animals have also been hard hit. The MSD has however issued a warning that the rains will be accompanied by heavy thunderstorms. Most people are excited to finally have some water but dreadful of the effects of thunderstorms. The nation is still reeling from the shock of last year’s cyclone Idai that ravaged most parts of Manicaland and Mozambique.

Weather patterns seem to have changed from past years. Geologists and scientists have been issuing warnings about climate change while churches and religious groups have been advising people to seriously pray as they attribute the change in weather patterns to religious beliefs. Even traditional leaders have been attributing the dry weather to spiritual forces.
