ED announces closure of schools as Corona virus scare kicks in

Government has announced that schools and tertiary institutions will close on 24 March 2020. The announcement comes at a time when measures are being put in place to contain the corona virus. ED said opening dates for schools will be announced. Neighbouring countries such as South Africa, Namibia and Tanzania have since implemented cautionary measures such as banning of public gatherings and church conferences in a bid to curb the spread of the virus.

ED recently announced that public gatherings will not be allowed for the next 60 days albeit after his rally in Manicaland which was attended by scores of people.

Although there have not been officially confirmed cases of the virus in Zimbabwe, precautionary measures still need to be made to prevent the influx of the virus from other countries. Corona virus was first detected in Wuhan district in China. It later spread to various parts of the world and has killed thousands of people.

Countries such as France,Italy,USA and South Africa have been affected. Prominent people such as Christiano Ronaldo and Idris Elba have confirmed testing positive for the virus.

Zimbabwe is evidently unprepared to deal with the pandemic should it cross borders into the country. People have been advised to use hand sanitizers, wash their hands often and avoid direct contact with each other to prevent catching the virus.
