Top high court judge honoured by the United Nations

High Court judge Justice Amy Tsanga is certainly revelling in glory after being honoured by the United Nations. The former women’s law lecturer was endorsed on the CEDAW calendar as it celebrates 40 years of existence.

Justice Tsanga is renowned for her immense contribution to the recognition of women’s rights in Zimbabwe. She has been instrumental in advocating for women empowerment through various projects and composition of several books that have a bearing on uplifting the voice of women.

CEDAW is an international legal instrument that was crafted 40 years ago to raise awareness on the rights of women and girls worldwide. Zimbabwe is a signatory. Judge Tsanga is the only person from Zimbabwe to be featured on the calendar which also features other phenomenal women from all over the world.

Justice Amy Tsanga indeed deserves to be recognized for her work. She was a lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe where she headed the women’s law department together with Mrs Stewart.

The issue of recognising women’s rights remains a topical issue in the country. Although strides have been made to curb abuse of women’s rights, other setbacks such as the recognition of child marriages in remote areas have dealt aajor blow to the development.
