Rufaro Stadium renovations back on track

By Geronimo News

There is now some ray of hope that things are starting to move in the right direction for Zimbabwean football following the commencement of renovations at the country’s ceremonial home of football Rufaro Stadium in Mbare a few days ago.

Once the hub and epitome of Zimbabwean football, the facility had faced serious neglect culminating in vendors and white garment churches utilising the facility to carry out their routine businesses at the expense of the game.

After the Sakunda deal to refurbish the stadium took a drastic twist, all hope had been lost leaving football stakeholders crying foul questioning why the authorities had turned down the offer by the energy giant.

A few months down the line smiles are starting to emerge for football people after witnessing the renovations at the ceremonial home of football in Zimbabwe taking centre stage.

The City of Harare who are the custodians of the football arena partnered with City Parking to kick-start the rehabilitation project which is expected to go along way in brining back the game back on track once completed.

With especially the National Sports Stadium over crowded by teams from the northern region, the refurbishment of Rufaro has come as sweet music.

Rufaro Stadium, which was last used for premiership games way back in 2019 before COVID-19 struck, has rich football history having hosted some of the biggest fixtures for the national team and club level.

However, the facility requires a lot of work to be done if it is to meet the required international standards.
