Mambo’s in hot soup for throwing shade at Simbisa brands

Barely a week after there was outrage on social media over the way Mambo’s chicken has been marketing their products, the fast food franchise is already trending again for the wrong reasons.

The fast food chain recently threw shade at Simbisa brands much to the dismay of social media users. The new social media craze that is dominating online whereby people take a picture and write a caption about it as if it is an old image was used by Mambo’s to take a dig at Simbisa brands.

In an unapologetic statement, Mambo’s put someone on their ad and claimed that it was Inskor Masimba, the first person to suffer from diarrhoea after eating chicken inn 1987. People were quick to connect the dots. Inskor is the brand that makes chicken inn under the Simbisa brands banner. The direct message from Mambo’s has caused furore and people have been calling their marketing gimmicks a desperate attempt to lure loyal customers of other brands.

Mambo’s is no stranger to controversy. Indeed even football lovers have had their skin rubbed off the wrong the way at some point by the fast food chain as they take advantage of the outcomes of soccer matches to use in their ads.

Recently, they came under fire for sexually suggestive marketing banners. In one of the controversial ads, Mambo’s claims they serve juicy thighs and puts on a very suggestive image. In another one they say, “Varume chaizvo vanodya Pakati” and then out a very small font on the next word, “pesvondo”. These marketing tricks have caused a growing concern over the way the brand is advertising it’s products.

It is however no secret that fast food companies often use sexually suggestive inuendo to market their food. It is also common for rival brands do throw shade at each other. Mambo’s has however surpassed what most people had been expecting to see.
