Judge Happias Zhou impresses at Con court interviews

Justice Happias Zhou emerged as one of the best candidates at the recently held public interviews for constitutional court judges in Harare. The humble faced high court judge attracted a lot of attention with his eloquence and legal know how putting him a step ahead of fellow judges that had come to partake in the interviews held by the Judicial Services Commission.

The JSC advertised for vacancies for judges of the constitutional court following the official separation of the constitutional court and the Supreme court into two separate courts. Other judges who came for the interviews include the likes of Justice Makarau, Justice Bhunu and Justice Gowora. They were all expected to answer some questions out to them on issues relating to constitutional law and show case their legal knowledge. Justice Zhou impressed with his vast knowledge of the law and constitutional law principles to the extent that most people have already prejudged that he will land a spot on the constitutional court bench. He was simply marvellous.

Justice Bhunu faltered many a times and failed to answer certain questions relating to constitutional issues. He even had to pass some questions. Justice Gowora professed her lack of technical and expertise by failing to articulate in the issue of online judicial seminars. She was also lambasted for having failed to clear her huge workload with some cases dating as far back as five years ago being said to be awaiting her judgments.

Social media has been abuzz with comments on the issue and Judge Zhou stands as too contender for the post of constitutional court judge. The judicial service Commission holds public interviews whenever there is need for the appointment of a new judge in accordance with the constitution
