Mixed reactions over Warriors’ defeat to DRC.

There have been a plethora of accusations emanating from the Afcon game between Zimbabwe and DRC last night. Zimbabwe were thrashed four nil in an encounter that left many fans disappointed. The match was the decisive moment for Zimbabwe to go through to the final 16.

Several theories have been formulated in order to justify the defeat. One of them is that the perfomance by the stand in goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze was so pathetic that it cost the national team a place in the final 16. Chipezeze himself acknowledge his shortcomings and in a recent post he said that people learn from mistakes. He said that he was not going to wallow in self pity at the accusations being thrown left, right and centre but was moving on.

The Warriors were in group A together with DRC, Uganda and Egypt. They only managed to get 1 point from all their matches. The warriors however return home with their pride and national glory after having put up a spirited performance. Football analysts have also attributed Zimbabwe’s loss to in house problems. Tension between the football governing body and the players over non payment of appearance fees had caused commotion between the two parties. At one time the players were said to have threatened to pull out od the tournament save for a last minute intervention by the Sports minister who assured them that they would be given their money.

Most people have expressed disappointment at the performance by the warriors. Several jokes are already circulating as some people have put humour into the whole fiasco. Self ordained man of God Prophet Oscar Pambuka also lashed out at the Warriors. He said that the fact that they had worn national conference meant that were supposed to have represented the country well. He claimed that their perfomance was treasonous.
