Will technical shake up bring results?

Faced with immense pressure Zimbabwe Cricket on Tuesday announced the appointment of Makhaya Ntini as Zimbabwe’s new assistant coach responsible for the Chevrons bowling department. In addition to Ntini’s appointment was the engagement of Sri-lanka legend Marvin Attapatu who will be Zimbabwe’s batting consultant for the tour of Bangladesh.

Zimbabwe are in Bangladesh where they play the Tigers in four T-20 internationals, encounters Dav Whatmore will be seeking to use as part of preparations for the T-20 world cup to be hosted by India.

ZC has been under pressure from the Ministry of Sport and Recreation who recently issued a statement raising concern over Zimbabwe’s poor showing against Afghanistan in Dubai. ZC and the sports Minister are reported to have met resulting in the passing of resolutions which included the strengthening of the Chevrons technical department among other remedies.

Whether the decision to appoint new personnel to assist Dav Whatmore remains to be seen amid fears there could be a deeper problem within the whole system which appears to have ceased producing quality players like in the past.
