Kirsty Coventry misses out on 100 metre backstroke final

Zimbabwe’s two time Olympic gold medalist Kirsty Coventry narrowly missed out on a place in the 200 metre backstroke final at the FINA World swimming championships in Kazan Russia.

Coventry who progressed to the semi-finals of the 200 metre backstroke and in the process qualified for Rio 2016 fell just short of a place in the final.

Despite registering a time of 2.10.38 on her way to the semi’s Coventry missed out on a place in the final.

Coventry had stormed into the 200 metre backstroke event at the FINA World championships on Friday morning but fell short of posting a qualifying time good enough to see her to Thursday evenings final.

Currently tied as the most decorated individual female swimmer in the history of the Olympics, Kirsty has competed in four Olympic Games, won seven medals, broken seven world records and has been nominated as the African swimmer of the year on five separate occasions.
