Brunette Makanyiso Returns Home to Sadza After Miss World Journey in Vietnam

Brunette Makanyiso is back home in Zimbabwe after weeks of international pageant activities, luxury hotels, cultural experiences and intense preparations at the Miss World Festival in Vietnam. After spending time surrounded by contestants from different countries and taking part in official engagements, interviews, charity activities and rehearsals, her return has brought her back to the familiar comforts of home. Her first meal back in Zimbabwe was a plate of sadza, beef and beans, a simple combination that carried far more meaning than its appearance suggested. After weeks of international attention, cameras and glamorous events, the familiar meal offered a comforting reminder of her roots. For Brunette, the return home marks the end of one chapter of her Miss World journey while opening another chapter shaped by the experiences she gained abroad.
Brunette spent several weeks immersed in the colourful and demanding environment of the Miss World Festival in Vietnam. Her schedule included official engagements, interviews, cultural activities, charity programmes, rehearsals and other preparations connected to the international competition. Life during the festival placed her in an environment where every appearance required preparation and every interaction offered an opportunity to represent Zimbabwe. She also experienced the attractions of Vietnam, including the beaches of Nha Trang and the hospitality surrounding the festival. The contrast between that international environment and her first meal back home made her return particularly memorable.
The plate of sadza, beef and beans represented more than a meal after a long trip. It brought Brunette back to a familiar part of everyday Zimbabwean life after weeks of eating meals prepared in a very different setting. Food can carry strong connections to family, culture and childhood, especially when someone spends an extended period away from home. For Brunette, sitting down to a familiar Zimbabwean meal after her international experience created a moment of connection with the life she knew before the pageant. The simplicity of the meal also stood in contrast to the five-star hotels and elaborate experiences that formed part of her time in Vietnam. It was a reminder that international recognition does not erase the importance of the place and people that shaped a person.
Brunette’s journey to the Miss World stage carries particular significance because of her background in Chitungwiza. Her story has connected with Zimbabweans who understand the importance of pursuing opportunities despite starting from ordinary circumstances. Coming from Chitungwiza, she has represented a community where many young people continue to dream about achieving goals that can take them beyond their immediate surroundings. Her journey demonstrates how ambition can develop through family, education, community and faith before eventually reaching an international platform. Her return home therefore has meaning not only for Brunette but also for people who have followed her progress and identified with her story.
Her Salvation Army background has also formed part of the story surrounding her journey. Growing up within a church environment provided her with values connected to faith, discipline, service and community. Those values travelled with her when she entered an international environment filled with cameras, contestants, designers and public attention. The Miss World Festival required her to move confidently between very different settings while continuing to present herself as a representative of Zimbabwe. Despite the difference between the church environment that helped shape her and the international pageant world she entered, Brunette has maintained a connection to the principles that have been important throughout her life.
Her participation in the Miss World Festival also allowed her to showcase more than her appearance. International pageants give contestants opportunities to communicate their personal stories while introducing audiences to their countries, cultures and aspirations. Brunette carried Zimbabwe onto the global stage and interacted with contestants representing nations from different parts of the world. She experienced cultural exchange while taking part in activities that extended beyond the main competition. That exposure gave her an opportunity to learn from other contestants while also sharing aspects of Zimbabwean identity with an international audience.
Brunette did not secure places in some of the early challenge categories, including Head-to-Head and Talent, but she continued participating throughout the festival. Her ability to remain engaged despite those setbacks was an important part of her journey. International competitions involve several stages, and not every contestant advances in every category. Remaining focused allows contestants to make the most of the opportunities that remain available to them. Brunette continued representing Zimbabwe with determination and eventually achieved recognition in the continental rankings.
One of the notable achievements from her Miss World journey was finishing among the Top 6 African contestants. That result gave Zimbabweans another reason to celebrate and demonstrated that her campaign had made an impact beyond the individual challenge categories. Reaching the continental Top 6 placed her among a group of African representatives who stood out during the competition. For Brunette, the achievement added another important milestone to a journey that had already taken her from Chitungwiza to an international stage. It also gave her supporters an opportunity to recognise the progress she made during a demanding period of competition.
Her time in Vietnam provided experiences that extended beyond the competition itself. The Miss World Festival created opportunities for contestants to experience the host country while taking part in official activities and meeting people from different backgrounds. Brunette experienced the atmosphere of Nha Trang while balancing the demands of rehearsals and pageant preparations. Such experiences can broaden a contestant’s understanding of international culture and provide valuable lessons in communication and public representation. When she returned home, those memories became part of a much larger personal and professional experience.
Now that Brunette is back in Zimbabwe, the gowns, international venues and constant cameras have given way to familiar surroundings. Her return brings her closer to family, friends and the community that has followed her journey from the beginning. The plate of sadza, beef and beans captured that transition in a simple but meaningful way. It showed that after the excitement of an international pageant, home can still offer the strongest sense of familiarity and belonging. For Brunette, the return is not about leaving the Miss World experience behind but about bringing what she learned back into the environment that shaped her.
Her journey also offers an important message to young girls watching from Chitungwiza and other communities across Zimbabwe. An international dream does not necessarily begin in a glamorous environment or with access to extraordinary opportunities from the start. It can begin at home, at school, in church or within a local community where someone decides to believe in her potential. Brunette’s experience shows that determination can create opportunities to reach platforms that once seemed distant. Her story can therefore serve as encouragement to young people who may see international opportunities as something reserved for people from different backgrounds.
The next stage of Brunette’s journey will be shaped by what she does with the experience gained during her time at Miss World. International exposure can strengthen confidence, communication skills and professional networks while also providing a clearer understanding of the demands of global platforms. Her challenge now is to turn those experiences into lasting value for herself and the community she represents. Remaining connected to her roots can help her carry the lessons of Vietnam into future projects and opportunities. Her return to Zimbabwe gives her the chance to build on the visibility she gained while continuing to inspire the young people who followed her journey.
From Chitungwiza to Vietnam and back home again, Brunette Makanyiso has completed a journey that represents far more than a pageant appearance. She stepped onto an international stage, competed alongside women from around the world, represented Zimbabwe and finished among the Top 6 African contestants. Her return to a plate of sadza, beef and beans provided a fitting reminder that behind the gowns, rehearsals and international attention remains a young Zimbabwean woman connected to her roots. The Miss World experience may have taken her far from home, but it has also given her new experiences that she can carry into the next stage of her life. Back in Chitown, Brunette can now look back on her journey with the knowledge that she represented where she came from and showed how far a determined dream can travel.
