Gonarezhou movie to premiere in Los Angeles

Local movie Gonarezhou has just been recognised at an international level. The movie which centres around poaching and its consequences will premiere at the 28th Pan African film festival in Los Angeles. The movie is about a young man called Zulu who suffers various misfortunes and joins a poaching gang. It hosts a star studded cast including Tamy Moyo, Eddie Sandifolo and Tariro Mnangagwa, the daughter of president Emmerson Mnangagwa.

On their Instagram page, the major players to the movie said the it could not have been recognised at a better time than this one when the world is commemorating Black history month.The movie was directed by Sydney Taivavashe. The story line was inspired by the killing of 300 elephants by cyanide poisoning in Zimbabwe. The country has been on an antibiotic poaching drive as such illegal activity continues to plague the nation costing millions of potential revenue. The movie was nominated for the Best Feature Narrative at the Pan African Film Festival.

The movie is an eye opener to the daily struggles that anti poaching authorities have to deal with with. Recently two members of Zimparks were killed by poachers that they had arrested and had their bodies thrown into Lake Kariba. Poaching has become such a common activity .

Most people have expressed excitement at the recognition of local films at such an International level. Others have called on young filmamkers to emulate in these footsteps and produce world class content that will ultimately market local talent abroad.
