Black Rhinos Queens off to a flying start

Black Rhinos Queens begun their maiden CAF Champions League COSAFA qualifiers campaign with a bang after dismissing fellow army side Green Buffaloes of Zambia 2-0 at the at King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban this afternoon.

Goals from on-loan midfielder Marjory Nyaumwe and promising forward Christabel Katona were enough to take the Zimbabwe women’s champions to the top of Group B at least for now as the Kuda Matuwi coached side shift focus to their second match against Namibia’s Tura Magic on Sunday.

Nyaumwe, who is a seasoned player, opened the scoring account for the Zimbabweans when she headed home a corner kick on the 60th minute before Katona sealed victory for the club with 17 minutes to full time.

Despite being inactive for almost two years due to COVID-19, Black Rhinos Queens ensured they marked their return to competitive action in style by giving their technical bench something to smile about.

The Zimbabweans now need only a draw from their remaining fixture on Sunday to progress to the semi-finals of the competition slated for September 2.
