Sharne Meyers stars for Zim women’s cricket

Zimbabwe women’s cricket team batsman Sharne Meyers is emerging as a shining beacon for the lady chevrons. For the second match running Meyers was handed with the player of the match award after having flourished in Zimbabwe’s 163 run win over Mozambique on Sunday.

On Monday Sharne Meyers was again impressive as Zimbabwe overcame Tanzania by 92 runs in the regional qualifiers at Takashinga Sports club. Meyers top scored with 65 runs with Modester Mupachikwa chipping in with 30 in an innings where Meyers again showcased her prowess with the bat.

The player of the match performance by Meyers helped the hosts win their second consecutive match and take a huge step towards progressing to the regional qualifiers final slated for Harare Sports Club on 12 May.

The lady Chevrons will have two days of rest after Monday’s victory over Takashinga. The Zim women’s side will return to action on Thursday with a clash against Rwanda.

The top two teams that make it into the regional qualifiers final will book a berth at the global qualifiers to be hosted by Scotland later this year. Uganda are the tournaments defending champions.

9 teams namely Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Namibia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria and Mozambique are taking part in the regional qualifiers.
