Tuku Pays Tribute to Hugh Masekela
From one legend to another,Oliver Mtukudzi paid tribute to the late Hugh Masekela. Tuku and Bra Hugh shared so many performances together, as well as a friendship.
During an interview on Metro FM’s Fresh Breakfast radio show, Dr Mtukudzi extended his condolences to the Masekela family and fans.
Tuku shared how he met the father of South African jazz.Tuku said, “I first met Hugh Masekela in 1984 when I had a show in Zimbabwe ,he jumped on stage & l liked his performance & we exchanged phone numbers the following day off stage.”
He described Bra Hugh as a father figure and an inspiration that he wished young musicians would look up to and understand that music is about giving hope,healing & motivating the nation.
The Zimbabwean legend said that he would write a ‘father figure’ song to simply describe more of Masekela’s journey that inspired him.
