Logarusic set for massive test

Zimbabwe national soccer team head coach Zdravcko Logarusic is poised for a stern test after announcing a list of 24 players that will do duty for the Warriors in back to back encounters against Algeria.

Save for the inclusion of Dynamos midfielder King Nadolo there were no major surprises with European based players dominating the list which was released at a press conference held in Harare on Sunday.

With the squad now known the new Warriors gaffer will now come under close scrutiny as Zimbabwean fans await crucial qualifiers against the desert foxes of Algeria. The last time Zimbabwe met the North African’s, the Warriors played out a 2 all draw at the 2017 Afcon finals.

In that encounter Nyasha Mushekwi and Kudakwashe Mahachi were on target for Zimbabwe and had it not been for a late Riyad Mahrez goal, the Warriors would have emerged victorious. It will be a different ball game altogether and after drawing their first encounter against Botswana at home before overcoming Zambia 2-1 in their own backyard Zimbabwe will now face the Algeria test.

The two encounters will be vital in determining the course of Zimbabwe’s campaign with two victories enough to earn an Afcon berth with 2 games to spare. Given the caliber of opposition, back-to-back wins will be an unimaginable feat but as they say anything can happen in football.

Logarusic will be banking on in form players such as Prince Dube who has had an amazing start in Tanzania while Tinotenda Kadewere has also emerged as a key figure in the  Olympique Lyon squad.
