BREAKING: Mapeza appointed Warriors coach

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has appointed FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza as Warriors head coach ahead of next month Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

As widely speculated, Mapeza takes over from the sacked Zdravko Logarusic on a three-month interim basis which will see him complete the World Cup qualifiers.

The FC Platinum gaffer will be deputised by Triangle’s Taurayi Mangwiro and Mandla Mpofu of Highlanders while Chicken Inn’s Energy Murambadoro comes in as the goalkeepers’ coach.

The new technical team’s immediate task at hand is to swiftly come up with the Warriors squad for next month’s back-to-back World Cup qualifiers against Ghana before taking on South Africa and Ethiopia in the remaining two fixtures in November.

Mapeza’s appointment in the national team set-up is his third after a stint as a substantive coach then on an interim basis in 2018.

Zimbabwe are currently at the bottom of Group G with just one point from two matches after posting a scoreless draw against South Africa on September 3 at the National Sports Stadium and a 1-0 loss at the hands of minnows Ethiopia at the Bahir Dar International Stadium four days later.
