Two Zimbabweans Nominated For AFRIMA 2017

The All Africa Music Awards jury panel has begun unveiling nominees for the 2017 edition. The prestigious continental awards has seen some of the biggest names being honoured for their contribution to African music. Zimbabweans have both been nominated and won at the awards since it’s inception in 2014. This year is no exception as already tow Zimbabweans are nominees in the major regional categories.

Superstar Jah Prayzah who was nominated last year, had been nominated in the Best Male Artiste Southern Africa. Rising pop and R&B singer and songwriter Rue has been nominated in the Best Female Artiste Southern Africa. This was the category in which Cindy Munyavi won at the inaugural awards in 2014.

Last year, house DJ and producer DJ Icytat won an award in the electro, house category for the song he produced for US singer SuCH.

Jah Prayzah is nominated for his 2016 collaboration with Tanzanian Diamond Platnumz. Rue who is relatively new to mainstream Zimbabwean music, is nominated for her first single under the group Veryus, titled ‘Down’.

This year’s nomination process consisted of artists, producers and even journalists submitting their works. Of course there are also adjudicator representing the different regions in Africa.

Zimbabwe is still being represented by the legendary producer, Delani Makhalima as part of the AFRIMA panel of judges.

Nominees are still being named but the regional categories are a major deal as the artists go up against some of the regions biggest names.
