OK Grand Challenge Winner Arrested For Driving Without License

A 23 year old Victoria Falls man who won a car at the OK Grand Challenge was arrested for driving the vehicle without license.

According to a local newspaper, Elton Nyathi is facing charges was arrested for driving the car which is worth $30 000 without a driver’s license and escaping from lawful custody after he outpaced the cops only to be re-arrested the following day.

Nyathi pleaded guilty to driving without license but denied charges of escaping from lawful custody when he appeared before the Victoria Falls resident magistrate Lindiwe Maphosa.

The prosecutor Takunda Ndovorwi told the court Nyathi was stopped by the traffic police who requested his driver’s license and when he failed to produce one, he was arrested and while being taken into custody, he escaped.

After winning the $30 000 Nissan NP300, Nyathi said he did not have a driver’s license but was planning to start lessons.

Nyathi is remanded out of custody until the 29th of January.
