Mighty Warriors semi-final hopes quashed

The Zimbabwe women’s national soccer team has crashed out of the 2021 Cosafa Women’s championship after Malawi overcame Angola 2 nil to quash Zimbabwe’s hopes of progressing to the semi-finals as the best runners up.

After earlier in the day overcoming Botswana 3 nil, Zimbabwe was hoping Malawi would at least be held by Angola but these expectations were quashed by a determined Malawi who shrugged off the challenge of Angola with a 2 nil win.

The win sees Malawi finish with the same points as Zimbabwe but Malawi have a superior goal difference having scored a goal more than Zimbabwe and conceded the same number as the Mighty Warriors.

The Mighty Warriors will be ruing a poor defensive display against Tanzania which saw them conceding 3 goals and severely denting their goal difference.

The COSAFA elimination will see Zimbabwe having to back to the drawing board as they seek to find ways of reclaiming their place at the top in the region.
