Highlanders secured yet another Independence Cup trophy by defeating Dynamos 5-3 on penalties at Mount Darwin High School.

Despite playing with a numerical advantage for a significant portion of the match, Dynamos failed to score a goal, leading to their defeat on penalties.

Highlanders defender, Andrew Mbeba, was sent off in the 32nd minute for a crude challenge on Nyasha Chintuli, leaving the glamour boys with a numerical advantage. However, the first half ended in a nil-all draw.

In the second half, Eli Ilunga’s header was ruled off-side, and Tendai Matindife’s shot went wide, in a contest which failed to produce any goals after 90 minutes.

Both teams converted their first two penalties in the shootout, and Melikhaya Ncube scored a third for Bosso. However, Emmanuel Paga’s penalty was saved by Ariel Sibanda to hand Bosso a massive advantage. This saved penalty proved to be the difference as Highlanders converted all their remaining penalties to win this year’s Uhuru Cup.
