Katsande leaves Amakhosi as a legend

Former Warriors and Kaizer Chiefs captain Willard Katsande’s stay at Amakhosi is finally over after the South African premiership giants announced they will not renew the contract of the Zimbabwean.

Katsande who is leading the list of those who will be exiting Naturena will leave the club as a legend after spending a decade at Amakhosi having joined in 2011 from Ajax Cape Town.

Bute as the midfielder is affectionately known played 326 official matches for Chiefs and holds the record of being the most capped foreigner at the club.

“The Club would like to truly thank all the players for the immense contribution to Kaizer Chiefs over the last number of seasons. Special mention goes to Willard Katsande who spent the last decade with Chiefs, giving his all.

“In order to make way for the new players and ensure that the coach and his technical team prepare adequately, Amakhosi will sadly be parting ways with some players who will not form part of the coach’s plans in the next season,” posted the club on its official Twitter handle.

Katsande began his career playing for lower league teams locally which include Frontier Steel between 2002 and 2005, Feruka 2006-07, Mutare’s Highway 2007-09 before joining Gunners in 2009.

Salt and Vinegar then moved to South Africa and signed for Ajax Cape Town making his professional debut for the club in a 2-0 win over Mpumalanga Black Aces on the 12th of December in 2010, and later joined Amakhosi on the 15th of August the following year.

Meanwhile, DStv Premier League side AmaZulu is believed to be interested in the Zimbabwean enforcer as coach Benni McCarthy is looking to beef up his squad for the 2021/22 season.
