Zimbabwe hold Mozambique in Cosafa opener

The Zimbabwe national soccer team was lucky to escape without defeat after their Cosafa cup opener ended in a goaless draw. Mozambique dominated the encounter and were unlucky not to find the target with Washington Arubi resolute between the posts for the Warriors.

Zimbabwe’s biggest chance fell to Delic Murimba who lacked composure inside the box with Richard Hachiro skying his effort from close range deep in the second half. Apart from that opportunity the Warriors struggled to create clear chances in a game Zimbabwe were heavily reliant on the counter attack.

After the match Warriors head coach Zdravcko Lograusic pointed to inactivity as the main reason for Zimbabwe’s sluggish display, “We only had 5 days preparation, we have had no league since November 2019, and there have been no official games except for cup games but anyway this is a good start. In the end it is a fair result and all of us are still in the game and have an opportunity” said Logarusic.

Logarusic’s counterpart expressed dissatisfaction with the result after dominating the game, “We are not happy because we must win, we were stronger over the 90 minutes. We did well technically and tactically but the field was not very good for our football because we are a technical team and the referee I do not talk about referees but what was important was we learnt”.
