Prince Dube answers pleas

The inclusion of Prince Dube in the Warriors starting 11 has been a debate which has occupied and dominated the social media space in recent days especially after a 3-1 defeat to Algeria last Thursday.

While he was an unused substitute in Zimbabwe’s 3-1 loss to Algeria, Monday served as a platform for Dube to impress Zdravcko Logarusic. After being introduced with 9 minutes remaining the Azam FC forward scored with his first touch after getting to the end of a Knowledge Musona cross.

The goal underlined Dube’s proficiency in front of goal despite some observers undermining his form in Tanzania, with the main arguments being the competetiveness of the Tanzanian league. Monday’s goal will not only have bolstered Dube’s confidence but also perhaps given Logarusic something to think about in the Warriors next fixture against Botswana which is slated for next March.

Dube rose to prominence after showing sharpness at Highlanders. He was then lured by Supersport United. Things did not quite work out for Dube at Matsatsantsa and the Warriors forward returned home. He was revitalised at Bosso under the mentorship of Brendon De Jongh resulting in Tanzanian side Azam FC snapping up the player. Dube has been in fine form in Tanzania, winning the September player of the month award.

Despite his goalscoring form in Tanzania there had been divided opinion regarding whether Dube could translate club form to the Warriors. The forward however answered to pleas after scoring with his very first touch in Zimbabwe’s 2-2 draw against Algeria on Monday.
