Billiat inspires Chiefs to victory

Former Zimbabwe international talisman Khama Billiat was the toast of the day as Kaizer Chiefs registered their first win of the 2022/23 South African topflight league campaign on Saturday.

Billiat inspired his side to a convincing 3-0 win over Maritzburg United at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg with the attacker providing two assists.

The Zimbabwean’s display proved why he survived the chop at the club when most of the senior players were shown the exit door out of Naturena at the end of last season.

And for those who questioned his stay, their critics were silenced as he left fans clamouring for more.

Billiat set up new signing Ashly Du Preez as early as the fourth minute before laying the ground for youngster Mduduzi Shabalala in the referee’s additional time to ensure Amakhosi cruise to an unassailable victory on matchday 2 of the DStv Premiership campaign.

Statistically, Billiat had the highest figure scoring 8 out 10 in the matchday player ratings of the day.

The former Warriors forward unpredictable moves gave the Maritzburg United defence torrid times throughout the entire 90 minutes.

It is thus hoped the attacker would continue with this momentum or even improve going forward and help Kaizer Chiefs break their 7 -year trophyless jinx.
