Warriors move 5 places up FIFA rankings

The Zimbabwe national soccer team has moved 5 places up the FIFA rankings ladder according to the latest placings released by the world football governing body.

In February Zimbabwe was ranked 112 on the global ladder but according to the latest release, Zimbabwe is now placed 107, moving 5 places up the FIFA rankings. On the African continent the Warriors are ranked 24th.

Zimbabwe’s upward trajectory comes after the nation qualified for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations which will be hosted by Cameroon. The Warriors progressed to Africa’s biggest football showpiece following a crucial away win over Botswana.

The Warriors may perhaps have gained more ground on the rankings ladder had they not succumbed to a 2nil home defeat to Zambia in a dead rubber Afcon encounter at the national sports stadium. After facing Chipolopolo after having already qualified, Zimbabwe rested several key players and paid the price for that decision.
