Why Wadi should have made Cosafa squad

Caps United forward Ishmael Wadi will be pondering about what he needs to do in order to earn the recognition of those tasked with the responsibility of selecting national team players. Based on form Ishmael Wadi was among the leading forwards that flourished in the Chibuku Super cup where he scored 4 goals in 5 matches, proving just why Caps United snatched him from Harare City.

“What the Warriors will miss without Wadi”

One of the key attributes possessed by Wadi is the confidence to take on defenders as was exhibited in Caps United’s 2-1 defeat to Yadah FC in their last Chibuku Super Cup encounter at the national sports stadium. After receiving a pass just after the half way line Wadi made use of his pace to beat his marker before driving into the box and cooly poking home an incredible individual goal. The image below shows Wadi’s ability to get take on defenders by making use of his pace:

Another key attribute has been his great awareness in the box with a well taken header in Caps United’s 1 all draw against Harare City illustrating his strength in the air as well as the ability to score with his head. Owing to his positioning he offers a fine option for crosses, cut backs and through balls.

Wadi has led the Caps United front line with aplomb with his movement in behind opposing defence lines proving difficult for defenders to handle. Often a time fond of drifting wide Wadi has made cutting back inside and exploiting the space between the wingbacks and centre backs one of his strengths.

In moments where he his tightly marked and with his back behind the goal, Wadi has often shown the ability to peel off the back shoulder of his opponents by so doing unbalancing his markers.

With sheer pace being one of the key weapons that Wadi possesses, the manner in which he was able to accelerate and beat his marker against Yadah FC depicts what he is able to do when he sets his sights on streaming behind his opponents.

With his great athleticism and ever improving finishing helping mould Wadi into a top finisher one cannot be blamed for wondering why he was not part of the flight to South Africa.
