Another football legend George Shaya dies

The football fraternity has once again been plunged into mourning following the death of Zimbabwe’s most celebrated football legend George “Mastermind” Shaya this Tuesday.

The 77-year-old five-time Soccer star of the Year died at his home in Glen Norah, Harare.

The Mastermind’s death comes barely two weeks after it was announced that a documentary of his glittering career, as one of the most celebrated footballers of his time, would be premiered.

The former Dynamos and national team forward has been battling ill health for some time with one of his legs amputated in February 2019 leaving the legend walking with the aid of clutches.

During his illustrious legendary career, the Mastermind won the Soccer Star of the Year accolade in 1969, 1972, 1975, 1976 and 1977 a feat that has not been achieved by any other player on the domestic scene.

The ZimSoccernet family joins the Shaya family and the nation at large in mourning the death of this legendary player, may his soul rest in peace.
