10 Things You Didn’t Know About Zimbabwean Cricketer Craig Ervine

The world is still buzzing about the record breaking Craig Ervine. He broke the record yesterday against New Zealand when he scored 130 not out off 108 balls to chase down a 300 plus target with five balls to spare.

In celebration of his achievement, here are some facts you might not know about the Zimbabwean cricketer.

1. Craig Richard Ervine was born in 1985 in Harare Zimbabwe.

2. The 29 year old cricketer is a left handed middle order batsman

3. He comes for a family of cricketers, his father and uncle both played first class cricket. Brothers Sean and Ryan also tried their hand at cricket, younger brother Ryan still plays.

4. In his early teens, Ervine slipped and fell on broken glass in his family’s living room, breaking his right hand which required a three hour surgery.

5. The injury was bad and they even considered amputation an option for his right hand.

6. Ervine did his A’ Levels at Lomagundi College in Chinhoyi where he got into Zimbabwe Cricket Academy.

7. He has played for English clubs like Bexhill and Lordhood and Irish club Lisburn.

8. He came back to Zimbabwe and played for local teams Matebeleland Tuskers, Midlands, Southern Rocks and for the Zim Under 19 team.

9. Ervine scored his first ODI century against New Zealand. The innings is the second best score for Zimbabwe in winning chases.

10. Ervine’s ODI average is the highest among all Zimbabwean batsmen who have scored at least 750 runs.
