ICYMI: O’ Level Pupil Denied Exam Entry For Not Having School Shoes
An O’ level student at Mweyamutsvene Mission was denied entry into the exam room for not having school shoes and has since missed three papers for his final sitting.
Belvin Chibi reportedly missed both the English Papers and Commerce (Paper 2) after Mrs Nyasha Rubende who also happens to be the Headmaster’s wife barred him from the exam room for not having proper school shoes.
“I do not have school shoes and so I borrowed a pair of shoes from a well-wisher. It was not a school shoe. As I entered the examination room, Mrs Rubende barred me. I pleaded with her but she would not listen. I was left with no option but to go back home. I failed to write again today”, he told Herald.
Catholic Bishops Conference of Zimbabwe spokesperson, Father Fredrick Chiromba expressed his shock saying, “This is a shocking incident especially considering the fact that most children in rural areas cannot afford to buy shoes and go to school barefooted.”
“There is also no regulation that students have to wear shoes. In rural areas the majority do not have shoes. I will need to find out what really happened in this case”, said Bishop Chiromba.
The school Headmaster has since offered to pay for Belvin’s exam fee for June 2016.
