Can the Warriors douse Malawi’s Flames?

Football fans will be hoping the Warriors live up to their tag when they clash against the Flames of Malawi in a crucial encounter which could make or break Zimbabwe’s prospects of progressing to the knockout phase of the Cosafa Castle Cup currently underway in neighbouring South Africa.

Given Wednesday’s performance Zimbabwean faithfuls will now be hoping the Warriors produce an improved performance when they take on Malawi in their second group B encounter on Friday. While it will be Zimbabwe’s second encounter of the tournament it will be Malawi’s opening game of the Cosafa tourney.

Zdravcko Logarusic pointed to an inactive league as the main reason for Zimbabwe’s sluggish display on Monday but fans will be hoping for a positive result. With two teams from each group qualifying for the semi’s Zimbabwe will need to pick up maximum points against a tricky Malawi side which could pose problems for the Warriors.

Captain Ovidy Karuru will be a key player for a Zimbabwean side which will be looking to mix experience with younger players such as Lennox Mucheto who had a memorable debut while Farau Matare and Blessing Sarupinda are some of the young players to look out for. After training at the Old Grey stadium in Port Elizabeth Zimbabwe will be hoping for good fortunes on Wednesday.
