Bosso ladies court controversy

Two Highlanders FC supporters courted controversy at the weekend after being captured while having an intimate kiss which has sparked debate on various social media platforms. Some have suggested the kiss was innocent and merely a sign of a close friendship while some have suggested the incident is taboo and should not be accepted in Zimbabwean society.

The kiss has gone viral and appears to be captured in Highlanders goaless draw against Hwange at the weekend. With Bosso yet to win a single game this season, Thandazani Zimbwa who posted the image suggested that such incidents are the reason for Highlanders lacklustre performances.

Lesbian and gay relationships are a sensitive issue in Zimbabwean society with the christian nation largely condemning this. Current president Emmerson Mnangagwa has not quite come out in the open regarding the country’s stance on gay relationships and lesbianism.

Culturally same sex relationships are taboo but discourse in so called democratic nations has allowed for such unions. In South Africa same sex marriages are allowed at law, but Zimbabwe is yet to embrace this. It is however a reality that same sex relationships exist and many belive it is just a matter of time before Zimbabwean society accepts this as a reality.

In recent years gay rights activists have lobbied for the passing of laws that recognise same sex unions but the country has been hesitant on the issue given Zimbabwe’s societal background which is largely Christian and views same sex relationships as taboo.
