DT Bio Mudimba Set to Release Hard-Hitting New Single “Twabeyi Shuwa” This July

The Zimbabwean music landscape is buzzing with anticipation as sungura star DT Bio Mudimba prepares to unveil his much-awaited single, Twabeyi Shuwa, this July. Known for his thought-provoking lyrics and captivating sungura rhythms, Mudimba is once again tackling deep social issues in a way only he can.
Twabeyi Shuwa, which translates to “Tapindwa nei shuwa?” in Shona, meaning “What has happened to us?”, is a powerful reflection on the decline of empathy and community spirit in Zimbabwean society today. The song takes listeners on an emotional journey, questioning why people have become indifferent to the suffering and struggles of others.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, DT Bio Mudimba—whose real name is Tawanda Mudimba—explained that the song was born out of personal introspection. “That’s a question I asked myself after realising that we, as Zimbabweans, no longer have hearts filled with sympathy,” he said.
At the start of the song, Mudimba paints a vivid scenario: he imagines a relative standing idly by while he heads towards a dangerous pitfall, choosing not to warn him. This powerful metaphor highlights the growing tendency in society where people fail to intervene or offer help even in critical moments.
Beyond individual actions, Twabeyi Shuwa delves deeper into the erosion of Zimbabwe’s once-strong cultural values. Mudimba laments how the sense of community and collective responsibility has been replaced by a selfish mindset. “We have lost the essence of the community acting as a family, whereby in times of trouble, we would share problems and help those in need,” he said. “Instead, now it has become each man for himself.”
A key theme Mudimba addresses in the single is jealousy and how it has fuelled divisions within communities. He notes that this toxic emotion has stripped people of the ability to celebrate each other’s successes. “It has taken away joy when one succeeds, even in business, and has made people wish for others to die,” he said.
Set for launch on National FM radio on July 19, Twabeyi Shuwa is expected to strike a chord with many listeners who can relate to its timely message. Fans of DT Bio Mudimba can look forward to his signature sungura sound—rich guitar lines, fast-paced rhythms, and heartfelt storytelling.
With this release, DT Bio Mudimba continues to solidify his position as one of Zimbabwe’s most socially conscious musicians. Twabeyi Shuwa not only promises to entertain but also aims to spark reflection and dialogue about rebuilding compassion and unity in Zimbabwean society.
