New Musical Show ‘Bring A New Song’ Set to Premiere Soon

A brand-new musical competition show, Bring A New Song, is set to grace local television screens soon. The show, which focuses on originality and fresh talent, has just completed filming its pilot episode, paving the way for an exciting debut.

Renowned DJ and media personality DJ Chili, whose real name is Hazvinei Sakarombe, will host the show. The brainchild of veteran British-based writer David Mwanaka, Bring A New Song aims to showcase songs that have never been recorded before, setting it apart from other music competitions.

The show boasts a panel of esteemed judges, including Taonga Mafundikwa and Miriam Patsanza, who will help select and mentor the contestants throughout the competition. The producer and director of the show, Nobert Fero, emphasized that the primary goal is to encourage creativity and originality among musicians.

“The main aim of our show is to push for creativity, own creations, and promote originality. We want our contestants to bring a new song that has never been recorded, and we don’t want imitations,” Fero stated.

A recording contract serves as the grand prize for the best song of the season. “At the end of each season, the winner or winners of the best song will be rewarded with a recording contract for six songs, including the one they performed on the show,” Fero explained. “They will also have the freedom to choose a studio and maintain exclusive rights to their music.”

The show is open to both upcoming and established artists, as long as they present fresh, original compositions. The pilot project successfully captured aspiring and underground musicians, and the organizers hope to attract even more participants in the first full season.

The competition format allows judges to narrow down contestants until the final phase, where the audience will have the power to vote for the winning song. “Artistes sing for the people, so it is only fair that people decide what they like,” Fero added.

Seven artists, comprising two females and five males, qualified for the finals in the pilot episode. Their performances covered diverse genres, including mbira, Afro-fusion, reggae, and gospel, showcasing the rich musical talent within the country.

The first season of Bring A New Song will be filmed in Harare, with plans to expand future seasons to other cities such as Bulawayo and Mutare. With its unique concept and commitment to promoting originality, the show is poised to become a significant platform for musical talent and innovation in the industry.
