Remembering Jay Badza: PR Visionary and Mentor Passes Away at 38

Jay Badza, the marketing and public relations wizard known for mentoring numerous media personalities in South Africa, including Bonang Matheba, has passed away at the age of 38.

Badza, who managed Matheba for five years and played a crucial role in her professional journey, was a prominent figure in the PR and marketing industry. His passing was announced by his agency, Orchard on 25, though the circumstances surrounding his death were not disclosed.

“It is with deep sadness that we share the devastating news of the passing of Orchard on 25 Founder and Head Honcho, Jay Badza,” read the statement by Orchard on 25.

Badza was described as a true visionary and passionate leader in the industry, dedicating his life to elevating young creatives and shaping the future of media and public relations.

“He wasn’t just a mentor but a guiding light who nurtured countless individuals and ignited their potential. His unwavering commitment to innovation and the relentless pursuit of excellence not only transformed the industry; it transformed lives,” the statement continued.

Born in Dobsonville, Soweto, Badza initially pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Motion Picture before switching to Marketing. He later completed a BBA in Marketing Management at IMM.

His career began with an internship at Meropa Communications, followed by stints at agencies such as Jenni Newman PR and DNA Brand Architects. Over the years, he became an award-winning PR extraordinaire, leading numerous successful campaigns and managing several high-profile brands.

Badza’s passing is a great loss to the industry, but his impact and contributions will continue to inspire generations of creatives and professionals in PR and marketing.
