Uncertainty over violence threats in Zimbabwe.

There is growing tension in the country with most people fearing for their lives after a string of WhatsApp messages declaring a ntaional shutdown circulated yesterday. People were advised to stay at home as there would be violent protests in the streets.

The threats came amid the price hikes of fuel and basic commodities. It is unknown as to who the author of the messages is but people have been languishing in suspense over what could break out into a bloody and messy affair just like in January when protests of a similar nature were done.

The protests in January were also done after government had announced an increase in the price of fuel. Zimbabweans have been battling a harsh economic environment with prices of goods shooting through the roof every day. People are already on the edge and such messages could lead to actions with dire consequences. In January several civilians were shot dead by armed soldiers in the heat of protests. A police stationand a toll gate were also burnt.

It seems however, that business is as usual in the central business district and it remains to be seen whether any violence will be done.
