Kanye West settles lawsuit after apologising to videographer
Ramos’ lawyer, Gloria Allred, said: “This case was set for trial next week on April 14, 2015. However, today we filed a dismissal because the case was settled to the satisfaction of the parties. We cannot discuss the details of the settlement, except to say that one important aspect of it was an apology by Kanye West to our client, Daniel Ramos.”
Kanye – who has 21-month-old daughter North with wife Kim Kardashian West – was photographed shaking hands with Ramos after settling the civil lawsuit and the paparazzo’s lawyer has hailed the settlement as a victory against celebrities who think they are “above the law”.
Ramos’ lawyer added to People magazine: “We are very proud of our client Danny Ramos and his courage in bringing and pursuing this case which was so important to him and many other celebrity photographers.
“We believe that this case sent an important message. Celebrities are not above the law, and they have no right to physically attack someone simply because they were asked a question.”
The 37-year-old star had been charged with misdemeanour battery and attempted grand theft in September 2013 after he allegedly punched Ramos and wrestled his camera to the ground, but he pleaded not guilty to both charges two months later as he claimed he’d acted in self defence.
