10 Things We Learnt About “NewsBae” Rumbi Takawira From #TWZ
The second episode of Zimbabwe’s hottest talk show right now #TonightWithZororo is out and star studded. From Phillip Chiyangwa, Shingi Mangoma and every Zimbabwean young man’s dream girl Rumbi Takawira popularly known as NewsBae.
We got to know a little bit more about the beautiful news anchor who does a good job staying out of the spotlight when she’s not doing her duties. Here’s what we learnt about Rumbi Takawira from the #TonightWithZororo.
1. Rumbi didn’t plan on being a news anchor, it was her father’s idea after he heard her announcing at COTTCO.
2. The effortless young anchor says being a news reader is not as easy as she makes it look, “it’s hard to concentrate, you have to be serious and good”, she says.
3. Takawira started off on radio, she was then put on TV as a stand in on the Mornig Live show and the rest is history.
4. Rumbi says the most embarrassing on-air moment was when she didn’t realize she was back on air and she was still fixing her earpiece which made her look like she was picking in her ear.
5. She is a tomboy and she plays karate, Rumbi says when she’s not studying or working she enjoys watching series, hanging out with her “few” friends or sleeping.
6. Sadly success has had it’s downs for Rumbi who admitted to Zororo that she broke up with her boyfriend because of his insecurity with her popularity. She has lost some of her friends too because they think they can’t keep up with her which she says it’s not the case.
7. Rumbi says the title “newsbae” has it’s positives and negatives. Some compliment her and some use it to correct say mean stuff to her. She also admitted to having stalkers
8. Takawira says the most hectic times in the “newsroom” are elections time, describing the environment to be very tense and hectic even with the producers.
9. Talking about her future career plans, Rumbi says she wants to represent Zimbabwe on a global level. She is aiming between BBC and CNN.
10. The newsbae’s role models are Minister Supa Mandiwanzira and America’s ABC news anchor Christiane Amanpour.
