Leeroy Mavunga’s clash with former paymasters
Saturday is set to be an emotional return to competetive action for Leeroy Mavunga who lines up against the club which nurtured him, as Caps United square off with Yadah FC at the National Sports Stadium.
The clash which will be broadcast on Zimpapers Television Network is set to be a moment for Mavunga to cherish as he makes his competetive debut for Caps United. Since leaving Marlborough High School, Yadah was Mavunga’s home, with impressive performances in the topflight seeing the skillful winger earn a number of call ups to the national team.
Always a driving force with his relentless energy, athleticism and ball artistry, Mavunga will be hoping to be among the effective signings for Caps United who managed to assemble a formidable team which many may consider to be good enough to challenge for the title.
Often deployed on the flanks during his time with Yadah, Mavunga built a reputation for making runs in behind and down the channels thus making it difficult for defenders to track him down. With Mavunga always looking to catch his opponents flat footed, his runs in behind and down the channels are potent weapons which serve as crucial strengths. Blessed with an eye for goal, Mavunga always looks looks to latch onto through balls and punish opponents as he so often did while at Yadah.
Darlington Dodo will be looking to maximise on such positives as Mavunga seeks for a decent start at Caps United. Pressure may have been minimal at Yadah, but playing for the green machine will be a different proposition for Mavunga who will be hoping for a perfect start, beginning with Makepekepe’s Chibuku Super Cup fixture against his former team on Saturday.
