Peter De Villiers Eyes Zim Rugby

Former Springbok coach Peter de Villiers might take over the Sables coaching job.

The South African was invited to help the national Under-20 team. He is currently in Zimbabwe to help prepare the team for a tournament that will be played in Nambia.

De Villiers arrived in the country yesterday and attended the national Under-20 team training session at Harare Sports Club in the evening.

The former Boks coach has been confirmed for interviews for the job. The position fell vacant aftet removal of Cyprian Madenge.

The 60-year-old was coach of the South Africa national rugby union team from 2008 to 2011 after he had been successful with the junior sides. He has won 30 of 48 matches between 2008 and 2011. After the 2011 World Cup, the South African Rugby Union did not renew his contract.

Other candidates include ex-New Zealand boss John Mitchell and British coach Collin Osborne and Brendon Dawson.

ZRU is aiming at restoring the Zimbabwean team to qualify for Rugby’s World Cup qualifying season.
