Nation pins hopes on the Warriors at Afcon.
Zimbabweans are today rooting for the Warriors to emerge victorious in their opening match against Egypt tonight. The match is set to put the national team to the highest test as they battle with the Pharoahs of Egypt. The Zimbabwean squad is expected to put on a spirited perfomance.
People have however lamented that they will not be able to watch the game due to the load shedding currently being experienced in the country. Electricity is available for a few hours a day, after 10pm and during the wee hours of the morning. Those who have generators are also crying foul at the scarcity of fuel and the exorbitant prices at which it is being sold.
To add insult to injury, the national broadcaster ZBC will not be airing any of the Afcon matches as it failed to obtain broadcasting rights to the matches due to lack of funds.
The national team players had threaten to boycott the match citing that they wanted their outstanding appearance fees which have not been paid by ZIFA. These are for previous matches. They however came to an amicable agreement and the Warriors will play off against Egypt.
Several nightclubs and bars with backup power supplies are capitalizing on the unavailability of electricity and requesting patrons to buy refreshments and drinks in their buildings in order to watch the Afcon games.
