High court Chief interpretor succumbs to covid 19
A high court member of staff passed away on Tuesday afternoon. He died of covid 19. Casper Madzimbamuto was the chief interpretor at the high court in Harare which is housed at Mapondera building. He is said to have reported for work on Monday but later became ill. He died at Parirenyatwa hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
Mr Madzimbamuto was such a bubbly and happy person. He was well known for his eloquence and magic when it came to translating in court. He was indeed a force to be reckoned in the courtroom and a hit with most judges, lawyers and litigants. Madzimbamuto was also described as a great mentor by his colleagues.
Cases have since been scaled down at the courts in line with a directive given by the Chief justice. Only urgent applications and bail matters are being set down. Skeletal staff is also manning the courts and employees have been advised to work from home. Courts are some of the places where the risk of spreading covid 19 is very high given the large number of people that attend hearings on a daily basis.
Mr Madzimbamuto leaves behind a rich linguistic legacy. His dedication and hard work allowed the smooth running of court business. Covid 19 has been causing multiple deaths over the past few weeks. It follows that the new strain is killing people more effectively than the previous one.
There have not been any other reported cases of covid-19 at the high court but speculation is high that some people might have contracted the virus given that they interacted with Mr Madzimbamuto just before he died.
