Warriors depart for Algeria despite Khama delays
The Zimbabwe national soccer team left for Algeria on Tuesday evening despite having to wait for the arrival of Khama Billiat who had missed his afternoon flight from South Africa. Billiat however linked up with the rest of the squad paving way for the team’s departure.
The Warriors who face Algeria tomorrow left with a squad of 21 players. The Zimbabwean squad is expected to arrive in Algiers at 8:15 am ahead of Thursday’s crunch encounter.
Jordan Zemura is recovering from a knock but is expected to be fit for Thursday’s encounter. The Warriors will be hooping for a positive result which could set the stage for possible early qualification. Back to back wins would secure Zimbabwe early qualification but given the calibre of their opponents an away draw would be a massive achievement.
Zimbabwe will be brimming with confidence ahead of Thursday’s tie given the form exhibited by the likes of Tinotenda Kadewere, Knowledge Musona and Prince Dube for their clubs. Getting the better of Algeria will however require a collective team effort although flashes of individual brilliance in key moments will be vital.
Algeria currently top group h with 6 points after securing wins against Botswana and Zambia. Zimbabwe is second with 4 points after being held to a nil all draw by Botswana before edging Zambia 2-1 in their second encounter.
