Logarisic debate rages on
The football fraternity has been left fuming over Zdravko Logarusic’s string of poor results ever since he took over the Warriors coaching job in February 2020.
Logarusic who has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons has once again hogged the limelight after the Warriors dismal performance at the ongoing COSAFA Cup in South Africa.
This is the second tournament the first being CHAN 2020, under the guidance of the Croatian, that Zimbabwe have been whipping boys and booted out without registering a single victory.
With social media awash with messages of agony, infuriated football loving fans’ called for the sacking of the Croat, all eyes remain on ZIFA to either keep the foreign coach or fire him.
Logarusic still has 6 months left on the 2-year contract he signed but the general consensus is that it is better to face the costs of ending ZIFA’s marriage with the coach immediately rather than risking another show of disappointments at the upcoming World Cup qualifiers set for September.
At a time when World Cup qualifier games are fast approaching, observers will be eager to see whether ZIFA will succumb to the pressure of public sentiment or stand by the Croat.
While over 95% of football stakeholders are calling for the replacement of Loga with a local coach in the calibre of either FC Platinum gaffer Norman Mapeza, Chicken Inn driver Joey Antipas or Callisto Pasuwa of Nyasa Big Bullets (Malawi), some have gone in the Croatian gaffer’s defence calling for time, the latest being former Masvingo United, How Mine and Manica Diamonds coach Luke Masomere.
“I support him 150%, he applied for the job and was scouted for it. He is a coach just like me and he support for us to prosper. He has delivered part of his mandate by taking us to the next AFCON edition and I’m proud and excited about that. I’m sure he was recruited to lead Zimbabwe to AFCON and World Cup, so let’s wait for the World Cup,” said Masomere.
Logarusic has won once, lost seven and drew four in the twelve matches that he has been in charge of the Warriors.
