Mushekwi eyes golden boot accolade
Zhejiang Greentown forward Nyasha Mushekwi is not taking his eyes off the Chinese League One golden boot award following his impressive performances since the beginning of the 2021 season.
The former Caps United player who has so far proved beyond reasonable doubt that he still has a lot to offer on the field of play was on the mark again when he scored three past Zhong Jiyu in goals for Beijing BIT’s to give his side Zhejiang Greentown an unassailable 3-0 victory at Hengli Soccer Town #9 Soccerpitch on Sunday.
Mushekwi’s efforts marked the first hattrick of the season in the Chinese League One with the player taking his goals tally to 15 in 18 appearances to keep his golden boot target alive.
The Zimbabwean who has been a dominant force in the Asian country since signing for Dalian Yifang in December 2015 asserted himself as one of the best strikers in the league after scoring over 50 goals since moving to China.
The 33-year-old striker is now four goals clear of his closest rival Liu Ruofan of Chengdu Rongcheng in the League One golden boot race.
Mushekwi has also managed to put his name on the score sheet in all his past five games as well as three braces along the way.
Although the League One is China’s second-tier football division, Mushekwi’s performances thus far have surpassed those in the Super League and can attract top teams in the Chinese top flight and even beyond.
