Warriors leave for Ghana tie

The Zimbabwe senior men’s national football team are hoping the football gods will smile at them when they clash against the Black Stars of Ghana in the back-to-back FIFA World Cup qualifiers between the 9th and 12th of this month.
The Warriors who left for Accra in batches this Tuesday for the first leg of the two clashes know the tough task which lies ahead and the need for them to remain focused and stick to their game plan if they are to entertain any chances of making it to the global football spectacle to be hosted by Qatar in 2022 for the first time.
With skipper Knowledge Musona already in Ghana after having flown direct from his base in Saudi Arabia, the rest of the team is expected to arrive later this Tuesday or early Wednesday ahead of Saturday’s epic clash.
Under new mentor in FC Platinum’s gaffer Norman Mapeza, it is anticipated that Zimbabwe will rise to the occasion and better their chances of qualifying for the World Cup tournament.
While Zimbabwe’s journey has been soiled following a false start to the campaign all eyes will be on Mapeza with the hope that he will be able to produce tangible results and bring back the smiles on the Warriors’ faithfuls.
Fondly remembered for his 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign especially when he guided the Warriors to a 3-0 win over Liberia at the National Sports Stadium on 11 June 2017, Zimbabweans will be banking on his expertise and his past experiences with the team to bring positive results.
Zimbabwe drew 0-0 with South Africa on 3 September in Harare before losing 1-0 to Ethiopia at the Bahir Dar International Stadium four days later to anchor Group G with a paltry 1 point.
