FC Platinum finally wins
Champions FC Platinum are back to winning ways after edging ZPC Kariba 1-0 at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane on Saturday.
The platinum miners had last tasted victory in match week 4 when they beat Bulawayo Chiefs with the subsequent duels ending in draws (3) and defeats (2).
Reigning Castle Lager Soccer Star of the Year Walter Musona scored the solitary goal at the team’s favourite fortress to hand his side the much-needed maximum points and a little something for the fans to smile about.
Having found the previous fixtures tough, FC Platinum are hoping to build on Saturday’s win going forward and ensure they improve their standing on the table if they are to successfully defend their title once again.
The Norman Mapeza coached side is sitting on 7th position on 15 points, just two shy of log leaders and fellow platinum miners Ngezi Platinum Stars.
With the league still in its infancy there is a lot of room for Kugona Kunenge Kudada to turn the tables just as they did last season where at some point were ruled out of the championship race even by themselves.
Consistency will, however, be key for the Zvishavane based outfit if they are to dominate once again but with the level of competition in the Premier League this season, the champions are set to bite the dust should the other teams remain as they are and avoid running out of steam along the way.
Be that as it may, FC Platinum are not far off from the top as victory in their upcoming fixture against struggling Black Rhinos in Harare, all things being constant, will take them to the apex of the log on 18 points, but that is a toll order.
