Retired Chief Air Marshal Elson Moyo Survives Car Accident Near Chegutu
Retired Chief Air Marshal Elson Moyo, former Commander of the Air Force of Zimbabwe, narrowly escaped serious injury in a car accident on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred along the Chegutu-Pickstone Mine road, where Moyo was driving alone in a silver Toyota Hilux double cab (registration AES 3454) when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle on a dusty road from his farm toward Chegutu.
According to police reports, Moyo’s vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree before coming to a stop while remaining upright. Despite the force of the impact, Moyo did not sustain visible injuries. However, he reported pain in his right hip and shoulder, indicating possible internal trauma.
Moyo was quickly assisted by a good Samaritan who transported him to Chegutu District Hospital. From there, he was airlifted to Harare Hospital by an air ambulance for further medical assessment. Hospital officials have confirmed that his condition is stable and that his next of kin has been informed.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched an investigation into the accident, assigned to case number ZRP Chegutu Traffic RRB 5841121. Meanwhile, Moyo’s vehicle has been towed to Concession Hill Farm in Chegutu for a thorough inspection.
This incident has drawn attention, particularly due to Moyo’s high-profile role as a former leader of Zimbabwe’s Air Force. Further updates will be shared as the police complete their investigation.
